Sporadic framerates

I'm running PCXS2 on a fairly old machine without a dedicated graphics card, so let me start by saying I know there might not be much I can do about this, but it seems worth asking since I don't know very much in terms of how to optimize my settings. The title says it all really--more than half the time games seem to run at around 60fps, but the rest of the time they nosedive to anywhere between 45-55 fps kind of unpredictably. I'm trying to play Silent Hill 2 right now and it seems to happen mostly during cutscenes (which seems weird to me because the graphics quality in cutscenes is about the same as in gameplay?). For comparison I booted up a Dragonball Z game (which lagged hardest at the character selection screen[?] and pretty significantly during fights) and Katamari Damacy (which showed absolutely no slowdown between cutscenes and gameplay).

My specs are as follows:

Windows 7
Intel Core i5-2430M CPU @ 2.4Ghz (quad-core)
6 GB RAM

Speedhacks are on
MTVU is on

Are there any other settings I can/should tweak?

Edit: forgot to mention I'm using PCXS2 ver. 1.4.0 on Windows 7.

Am I just bad at this?

Hello all, I'm new here.

So recently I bought a new PC to better run my games on. I wanted to set up PCSX2 since I could barely make it work on my laptop. I have it working mostly okay but I feel like it's not going to full potential. I can run Skyrim SE and Fallout 3/NV to near perfection with mods, but old PS2 are still a problem. So what am I doing wrong?

Here's what I'm working with:

CPU: Intel Core i7 7700 @ 3.60GHz
Graphics: 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 (HP)
RAM: 16GB

Any ideas? I don't have any speed hacks on, I use OpenGL, CRC hack level at "agressive", and everything pretty much left at default.

Thanks for any help.

The list of most CPU intensive games...

While browsing the forum, I stumbled across the list of the most CPU intensive PS2 games. I noticed that four of the Burnout games are on the list, which seems strange to me, since these games actually run fairly well on my older system.

Yes, they run a little slower than they should and there's an occasional, brief slowdown, but in general the framerate is pretty consistent and the games don't really feel slow when you're playing them. They aren't choppy and they move fast enough that if you showed them to someone who had never seen the games before, they probably wouldn't think there was anything wrong with them.

The Jak and Daxter games also run fairly well for me, considering that the levels are pretty large and open. I haven't played all the way through the games, but what I did play, they didn't really feel slow or sluggish to me. Jak X - Combat Racing was kind of laggy though. I could play it, but it didn't feel right.

Soul Calibur 3 is another game from the list that seems fast and smooth to me. The characters respond well and the action never seems like it's slower than normal.

That's not to say that all games run great on my system. The Incredibles sometimes seems like it's in slo-mo. Gran Turismo 3 was like watching a slideshow and Ben Hur was so slow when you tried to start the game, it sounded like the audio was doing a Friday the 13th impression; Ch-ch-ch-hu-hu-hu-ka-ka-ka...

My system is a 2.4Ghz Core-2-Duo with 4GB RAM, a GT430 graphics card and XP Pro, SP3, which I would have thought would be considered completely underpowered for running PCSX2, but yet it runs many games at what I consider playable speeds. Of course I only have the resolution set to 2x and the speedhacks turned up to 4.

It just makes me wonder when people with 4Ghz i7 processors, 8-16GB of RAM and $200+ graphics cards complain that the games are running too slowly. Are people just upset that the games don't run at 60FPS and 4K resolutions? Are more advanced systems actually worse at running PCSX2?

MGS2+3 randomly crash after 1-3 minutes

Hi.

I recently installed the Nov 14 2017 build, to get everything ready for a playthrough of the Metal Gear series. It didn't take too long to get everything running smoothly. I tested both MGS2 and MGS3 (still can't get over the fact that it PCSX2 can do post-processing for it now) to make sure everything's fine, and it was.

However, recently I've fiddled around with the settings a bit more to make sure everything is optimal. I'm not sure what I changed, but I played some Metal Gear 1 afterward (through the second disc of MGS3), and it still ran fine. Later, though, I tried to run MGS2 and 3, but they both kept crashing after only a few minutes. I couldn't get past the first cutscenes after starting a new game in MGS3, and MGS2 crashed after a few minutes of gameplay in Snake Tales.

After searching around, I found out that XAudio 2 might be the culprit (though it wasn't in my previous playthroughs in 2015 and January 2017). After changing it to DirectSound, I tried Snake Tales again, and everything ran fine. However, MGS3 is still crashing. I even tried setting the module to No Sound, and it still crashed. Just seconds ago, as of writing this, I started a new game (Plant) in MGS2, to make sure everything is still fine. Now it's crashing again. I'm at a loss. I'll post settings as soon as I can.

TL;DR Set up the emulator, everything's fine. Fiddled with the settings, it crashed. Changed audio module, MGS2 stopped crashing. Tried MGS3, it still crashed. Tested MGS2 again, crashed again.

Input Lag

I'm getting input lag in both games I've tried, The Warriors and Onimusha: Warlords. I'm using a PS2 Dualshock 2 controller via a usb adapter that uses Xinput software, everything works fine, including the emulator with those two games (flawless). I've also tried my Xbox One controller that uses DirectInput software with no difference. I read some threads via the search function and there was one poster who offered some suggestions and I tried them but to no avail.

Hi! I'm pretty new to emulation (and pc gaming) and have been going through some problems. I know emulating a ps2 is far harder than playing normal pc games and I'm completely aware that my pc specs may be the cause of the severe slowdowns I've experienced while trying to play ps2 games. In some cases the game runs in slowmotion, other times whenever I find a configuration that allows the game to run on a solid 100% speed it just looks buggy and broken (and believe me I messed arround with these configurations quite a lot). Most of my games run in either 40-50 speed or sometimes 90-100 with the fps falling to single digits sometimes but staying mostly arround 40-59, which is already enough to cause a really bad slow motion effect that just takes me out of the experience.
I don't care about graphics too much, as long as I can experience the games as they were in the ps2 and at a solid 100% speed and 60 fps (with maybe some occasional slowdowns every hour or so) for me it's perfectly fine. I don't care about pushing the graphics too hard and getting the best off of them, I just want to remember the good old days when I had a PS2 and could play games that I really loved.

Keep in mind that I do know that laptops are not the ideal thing when talking about emulation but it's the only resource I have available and it is pretty good at playing native pc games.

My specs are.
Acer Aspire Laptop
Intel Core i5-7200U CPU 2.50 GHz (4 CPUs) with Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz
8GB RAM 1000 GB HDD
DirectX 12
NVIDIA GeForce 940MX with 2GB dedicated VRAM

I'm also not a pc expert, I just got my own. But if these do not meet the requirements, can I upgrade it? If so, what should I change in my pc to meet the necessary requirements to play ps2 games at a perfect speed and fps? Thanks, and sorry if I'm just saying something wrong I'm new to pc gaming and I don't quite understand how these machines work, sorry for my bad spelling of some words, English is not my native lenguage.

How to Legally use pcsx2? Please help!

I didn't know that you had to own the ps2 to emulate it legally, sorry, silly mistake. I made the unfortunate mistake of downloading the BIOS from EmuParadise because some stupid tutorial told me so. Keep in mind I do own my games and I have a broken PS2 in my basement somewhere that I think I could use. I'm super new to gaming in the pc, and just recently got my own laptop. I'm sorry, want to make up for this by doing it legally.

Hello.
This is my first post to this forum so I am a little nervous that I may be asking questions that have already been answered, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong and I have already tried many fixes that were suggested on different threads of this forum.
I'm attempting to get PCSX2 working on my computer, but I cannot seem to escape these recurring problems I am facing.
The first of which pops up immediately after opening the application.
Not sure what that means but it pops up every time I open the application. Then I get these warnings:
[wx] Failed to open temporary file.
[wx] can't open user configuration file.
[wx] Failed to open temporary file.
[wx] can't open user configuration file.
[wx] Failed to open temporary file.
[wx] can't open user configuration file.

[wx] Failed to open temporary file.
[wx] can't open user configuration file.

They appear any time I try to run an ISO, every time I run the application, any time I try to configure anything. Then when I try to open an ISO I have on my PC it cannot create or access a memory card. Then I get this:
Path: C:\Users\Jesse\Documents\PCSX2\bios\Please Configure

(pxActionEvent) Configured BIOS file does not exist, or has a file size of zero.(thread:EE Core)

And then I have to select my BIOS again. and then the cycle repeats. I have the application installed correctly, run it as an administrator, and everything but I still get the same issues. What have I done wrong? What should I try next?

Needing help, Rock Band drumkit.

So, I have a Rock Band drumkit meant for the ps2. I couldn't find anything else to help me out... The problem for me is that there (seems to be) no way to map out a Rock Band drumkit with Pcsx2.. I could easily map out my guitar hero guitar with the built in support for it with LilyPad... is there some sort of download I need so I can map it out or is it just that I'm overlooking something?

Hello,

First time posting here Smile I currently installed fedora 27 with KDE and I have a a nvidia GTX 750 TI. I installed the GPU drivers from rpmfusion and everything looks fine on that end. When I tried to run PCSX2 I got this error at first. BTW I installed from fedoras repo.
